Nine years running a global society’s entire digital operation
About the client
The International Society for Physical Activity and Health is the leading global society in its field, connecting researchers, practitioners and policymakers on every continent since 2008. Its flagship International Congress on Physical Activity and Public Health marks twenty years in 2026 — from Atlanta in 2006 to Mexico City in 2026 — and its official journal, the Journal of Physical Activity and Health, sits at the centre of the discipline.
Through initiatives like the Eight Investments That Work for Physical Activity, ISPAH translates evidence into advocacy that shapes national policy — work that depends on a digital presence as international as its membership.
The challenge
ISPAH is a truly international society — members, volunteers and a board spread across the world, operating under international governance and the data-protection and compliance expectations that come with working across many jurisdictions. That raises the bar on everything: security, governance and the systems behind them all have to hold up at international scale, with the extra consideration that demands.
To grow, it needed all of that from a single partner — one who understood both the technology and a globally distributed society — for the long haul, through congresses, refreshes, new systems and the day-to-day, rather than a website from one supplier and IT support from another.
Our approach
Since 2017 we’ve run ISPAH’s complete digital operation as one joined-up partnership.
At its foundation is a managed Microsoft 365 tenant for 60+ users worldwide, built and secured to meet international governance and compliance expectations — global security, data protection across jurisdictions, SharePoint and OneDrive management, and day-to-day support with tickets handled every week. On top sits a deep layer of automation: extensive Power Automate work connecting their websites to internal systems built in Microsoft Projects, Forms and Lists, so teams across the society — the communications team especially, with monthly automated routines — work together efficiently rather than by hand.
Alongside the IT, we’ve delivered the society’s web estate: four congress websites, two full website refreshes, and a membership platform we’ve continually advanced. We’ve automated most of their finance and data handling, built their compliance, induction and recruitment systems, and delivered around fourteen smaller projects along the way — with new automations always on the go.
