Your website is the hardest-working member of your team: always on, speaking to every prospective student, member, funder, and collaborator who finds you. We build sites that earn that role — accessible, compliant, and built to last on a lean stack that stays cheap to run. The skill isn’t adding more; it’s leaving out everything that doesn’t belong.
What’s included
Native WordPress
Built on native Gutenberg block patterns — fast, accessible, and easy for your own team to run. The right default for most academic sites.
Custom when it’s needed
When a project needs more than WordPress should do, we build bespoke, standards-based applications from the ground up — led by your needs, not our convenience.
Accessibility & compliance
WCAG-aware from the first wireframe, privacy-conscious as an ICO-registered company, and built to the data-protection standards public-sector and academic work demand — across jurisdictions, not just UK GDPR.
Built to last
A lean, well-chosen technology stack that’s cheap to run and ages well — no template debt, no page-builder lock-in, no rebuild in two years.
The case for less
The skill is in what you leave out.
WordPress is the right foundation precisely because it’s everywhere — but the difference between a good build and a bad one is everything that doesn’t get added. We keep it lean, on purpose.
43%
of the entire web runs on WordPress — flexible, proven, and easy for your team to run.
A site doesn’t get better by piling on plugins; it gets slower, heavier, and more fragile. Every extra plugin is more code to load, more to keep updated, and another door for an attacker to try. Longevity comes from restraint — a light, refined build carries almost no technical debt and ages gracefully.
The typical build
40–50 plugins, bolted on
- Slow, heavy pages
- A wide security surface
- Plugins that conflict and break
- Mounting technical debt
The Tecology build
A handful, hand-picked
- Fast, light, and lean
- A minimal attack surface
- Fewer things that can break
- Future-proof — built to last
We even build our own.
Where an off-the-shelf plugin would be overkill, we write our own — lean, single-purpose tools for things like analytics, security, and backups, built for our clients and kept properly maintained. The best of them are becoming NativeWP Plugins, our family of native WordPress plugins for professionals — built to core standards, with no bloat to carry.
More than websites
When off-the-shelf isn’t enough.
Some problems need software built specifically for you. We design and build web applications, integrations, and automations that fit the way your organisation actually works.
Web applications
Custom tools — portals, dashboards, booking and submission systems — designed around your workflow, not a template.
Integrations & APIs
Connecting the systems you already rely on: CRMs, finance, journals, payment and identity providers — made to talk to each other.
Automations
The repetitive, manual tasks that eat your team’s week — automated, so people can spend their time on the work that matters.
Hosting & infrastructure
We run the servers, deployments, and monitoring on our own infrastructure — a fast, reliable platform with someone to call.
Page builder → native WordPress
Trapped in Elementor, Divi, or WPBakery? We’ll get you out.
Page builders feel quick at first, then quietly tax you forever — slow loads, bloated markup, and lock-in that makes every change harder. We rebuild your site in native WordPress, without any page builder required — preserving your content, URLs, and rankings, so you get the speed and freedom back. This very site is the proof.
Audit & plan
We map your existing site, content, and SEO so nothing is lost in the move.
Native rebuild
Rebuilt on Gutenberg block patterns — lighter, faster, and free of builder lock-in.
Content & SEO preserved
URLs, redirects, metadata, and rankings carried across carefully.
Trained to run it
Your team edits natively in WordPress — no licence renewals, no mystery, no waiting on us.
Accessibility & compliance
Accessible by default — because for academia, it’s the standard.
Public-sector and academic websites carry real accessibility duties. We design to WCAG 2.1 AA from the first wireframe, not as a retrofit — so your site works for everyone, and stands up to scrutiny.
WCAG 2.1 AA
Built to the recognised standard, designed in from the start rather than patched on at the end.
Tested, not assumed
Checked with real assistive technology and keyboard navigation — not just an automated score.
Public-sector ready
Built with the PSBAR accessibility regulations and your procurement requirements in mind.
Privacy-conscious
An ICO-registered company that builds privacy and data protection in by default — and thinks across jurisdictions, not just UK GDPR, because academic data rarely stops at one border.
How we work
A curated process, start to finish.
Step 01
Discover
We get to the bottom of the vision, the audience, and what success actually looks like.
Step 02
Map
Every page, feature, and task planned in detail before a line of code is written.
Step 03
Develop
Design and build in the open — functionality and interface shaped around your brand.
Step 04
Challenge
We pressure-test the work and gather feedback, refining until it’s genuinely right.
Step 05
Deliver
A careful launch, with performance, accessibility, and scope all reviewed.
Step 06
Optimise
Ongoing care and refinement once it’s live — the work doesn’t stop at launch.
Retained development
Keep improving — on a guaranteed monthly slot.
Once you’re live, the work rarely stops: new features, design changes, campaign pages. Our pre-paid monthly development packages reserve you a guaranteed slot each month for design and development — and bring your overall spend down across the year.
Care-plan clients save more — 5% off on a Premium plan, 20% off on Advanced.
Frequently asked
How much does a website cost?
Every project is scoped to what it actually needs — pages, features, integrations — so pricing is bespoke. We’re transparent from the first conversation, with the cost agreed up front and no surprises later.
How long does it take?
Anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on scope. The Map phase gives you a clear, realistic timeline before we start building — and we hold to it unless the requirements genuinely change.
Why WordPress — and what if we need something custom?
WordPress powers a huge share of the web because it’s flexible, affordable, and your own team can run it. When a project needs more than WordPress should do, we build bespoke. The choice is led by your needs, not ours.
Will the site be secure, and is it GDPR-compliant?
Every site launches with SSL, and care-plan sites add malware protection, spam filtering, and continuous monitoring. We’re an ICO-registered company with years of GDPR experience, and we build to the data-protection standards academic work requires.
Do you provide the domain and hosting — and do we own it?
Yes. We’ll register and manage your domain, and you legally own it — free to transfer away at any time. Hosting is free during the build; afterwards it’s covered by a Website Care plan.
Do you back up our website?
Yes — hourly or daily backups, kept across multiple data centres, with daily malware scanning on care plans. A bad day stays an inconvenience, not a crisis.
Who writes the content, and what if we don’t have images?
Most clients provide their own copy, and we can help write or rework it if you’d rather. For imagery, we’ll help you source the right photography — free or premium — to match your identity.
What happens after launch?
We don’t disappear. Most clients move onto a Website Care plan, and further design or development is available either by the hour or on a retainer for ongoing work.
